WHAT WE DO

Fire Pumps

COMMERCIAL & RESIDENTIAL

High Rise Fire Pumps

In any building where the mains water pressure is insufficient to deliver adequate flow and pressure to the upper floors, a fire pump system becomes an essential component of the fire protection strategy. For high rise buildings, this is almost always the case. Fire pump sets are typically installed in a dedicated plant room at low level and are engineered to maintain the pressure and flow rates required across all connected systems, whether that is a wet riser, a sprinkler system or a combination of both. The consequences of pump failure during a fire event are severe, which is why redundancy is built into every system DRFSC installs. Duty and standby pump configurations ensure that if one unit fails, the other takes over automatically and without interruption. All pump sets are supplied with a diesel driven backup to safeguard performance in the event of a mains electrical failure.

Fire Pump Installations & Specifications

Correct pump specification is a discipline that demands both hydraulic engineering knowledge and a thorough understanding of the systems the pump set is required to serve. An undersized pump will fail to deliver the required pressure at the top of a tall building; an oversized pump can create excessive pressure at lower levels that damages components and creates safety risks. DRFSC works with leading pump manufacturers to select units that are properly matched to the hydraulic demands of each individual project. Our engineers oversee the full installation process including pipework, control panels, automatic test facilities and remote monitoring connections, and conduct a comprehensive commissioning programme in line with BS EN 12845 and LPC requirements before any system is handed over for operation.
