WHAT WE DO

Dry & Wet Riser Systems

COMMERCIAL & RESIDENTIAL

Engineering Reliability Into Every Riser Installation

A dry riser is a network of empty pipework installed vertically through a building, designed to give firefighters immediate access to water at any floor level without the need to run hose lines up stairwells. In the event of a fire, the Fire & Rescue Service connects to an inlet breeching at ground level and pumps water up through the system to outlet valves known as landing valves, positioned at each floor. This method of firefighting is standard practice in buildings typically between 18 and 50 metres in height, where running hoses up multiple flights of stairs would be both time-consuming and physically demanding for crews operating under pressure. At DRFSC, our installation teams work closely with structural engineers, M&E consultants and main contractors from the earliest stages of a project to ensure riser positions, inlet locations and valve access points are optimised for firefighting effectiveness rather than simply placed wherever is most convenient for the build programme.

Customer Reviews

Our work speaks for itself across every service we provide, from dry and wet risers to sprinkler systems, fire hydrants, hose reels, fire pumps and automatically operated vents. Read our reviews to see why building owners, developers and contractors trust DRFSC to deliver on the most demanding high rise fire protection projects.

Wet Risers For Complex Structures

Where a building exceeds 50 metres, a wet riser system, one that is permanently charged with water under pressure, becomes the required solution. These systems demand a higher degree of engineering rigour, as the pipework, pump sets and pressure regulating valves must work in concert to deliver consistent water pressure at every outlet regardless of which floor is in use. Excessive pressure at lower levels is as problematic as insufficient pressure at the top, and pressure reducing valves must be correctly specified and commissioned at each landing. DRFSC has accumulated extensive experience across the full spectrum of high rise wet riser projects, from residential towers to mixed use commercial developments. Our commissioning process is thorough and fully documented, ensuring that every system we hand over meets BS 9990 and is ready for immediate use by the emergency services.
